Achieve a dazzling bright smile with teeth whitening
Our teeth naturally darken and become less white as we age. Through a combination of stains that we pick up and the gradual wearing away of the white enamel, teeth lose that pearly whiteness. We naturally associate a white smile with youth and vigor, so having whitening can really enhance your look.
How does whitening work?
Tooth whitening uses a chemical reaction that causes stain molecules to break down, leaving your teeth whiter as a result. At Carbis Bay Dental Care, we use home whitening and in-surgery whitening. Both treatments use a special whitening agency that contains hydrogen peroxide or hydrogen carbamide. Home whitening uses a small concentration of the bleaching agent in a gentler treatment that gradually brightens your teeth over a couple weeks. In-surgery whitening takes up to an hour and uses a UV light that activates the whitening agent.
Getting you started with your home whitening
Home whitening relies on custom-made mouth-trays. The whitening gel is placed into the tray and it’s then worn, pushing the gel around the teeth surfaces in an even spread.
We use our 3D intra-oral camera to capture accurate scans of your mouth so we can make a comfortable tray for your whitening treatment. You can wear the tray at night or for a short period during the day.
After a couple of weeks, we’ll see you again to see how you’ve got on. We can carry out any touch-ups for stubborn stains.
If you have any crowns, veneers or bridges, we will have to create new restorations to match your new shade as whitening doesn’t work on replacement teeth.
